  • Just to play punctuation Nazi for a moment, "...." is wrong. An ellipsis is actually "...".

    I have no idea why people you know do this in texts. I'm far too ancient to give a damn about the passing fads for mutilating English language and usage in various ways just to be different.

    FWIW, the convention is that an ellipsis is used in printed dialogue to indicate that the speaker has let a sentence tail away unfinished. It typically indicates hesitancy on the part of the speaker due to uncertainty about how what they've said will be received or conflicted thoughts.

    To me, closing a texted sentence with an ellipsis comes across the same as the rising inflection that many people use in speech, and that sounds to me like a signal that the speaker is hoping the listener will agree with whatever's been said.
