Is it normal to have a feeling that your superior to the majority of people?

Is it normal to just think that... you are better as a whole, not in a physical sense but, you know better or think better and therefore are better than the majority(51% < You) of people?

I have depression and autism, and am on anti-depressants but I still have this view due to generally intelligence and a bank of knowledge that I am just superior to the average person in terms of thinking and my ability to work things out in my mind.

IIN?

I can't believe people are treating you like a freak, because you have depression and what not! These people need to get over themselves! No one is perfect. It's people like this that make me despise the human race!

    • Oh Thats why I posted it.

When I said autism I specifically didn't mention it to be aspergers syndrome which is easily considered the most useful type as opposed to a lot of characteristics on the autistic spectrum which balance out to be more negative than positive. Not to mention the fact most autism can be refined so the good qualities shine and the bad are coped for. As someone else correctly point out a simple explanation is "having too much on your mind" - hauntinghour (91199), which was not only informed but constructive rather than destructive criticism.
Most who have posted in a critical fashion specifically on the autism subsequently making an assumption due to a lack of knowledge on the subject, as opposed to just saying "I don't know about the autism", or even looking it upon Wikipedia >.>
One example being percussiveness39 (88336) who merely brushed it off saying it messes with your thought process. Saying such a thing is to demonstrate a pure lack of understanding of what both Autism is as well as the biology of the brain and how the connections formed naturally and from birth create an the way a person thinks. To have autism requires you to be taught in a different fashion but if done well can lead to great success. One example of a person with Aspergers syndrome is Julian Assange... He's pissed off how many people? :P Einstein is now commonly believed to have some form of autism >.>
To write off Autism as a ruining factor is ludicrous and personally funny as I revealed I have depression but few looked at that alone as a factor xD
This was possibly driven by ego "1-up man-ship", or by the better self driven need to express their opinions as is the audience the site draws in.

Finally to just get a few other people in the trap I left a mistake in the form of "I have this view due to generally intelligence". Which I was hoping more than 1 person would pick up on, well done Oli (76055).
I love the top comment of "You can clearly type" - dom180 (80626)

The most others not in the above mentions sections are saying that they do feel this way, as per the poll.

People can view pretty much this topic as in intricately designed troll to catch people out... proving... hmmm... nothing much but they fell for it :)

IQ is split up. With autism, intellectually you probably are smarter than 51%, in terms of emotional intelligence and empathy you are most likely a pretty low percentage of the population. This is due to your autism because one of the main links in the autistic spectrum is a lack of empathy.

:p In one way you are, in another you're not.

My friend, you have a lot on your plate, with depression and autism. But be assured you're nowhere near being as intelligent as you think you are. Your poor spelling and writing show that. Your judgment of your brain power is probably the result of comparing yourself with relatively uneducated friends and acquaintances. Try to figure out why intelligence is so important to you, and why you tend to make these sorts of comparisons. Give more thought to your "depression" and discuss with your doctors how you can wean yourself off anti-depressants as soon as possible. Those drugs are all harmful and many are addictive. One more thing: Go to the library and take out The Collected Works of William Shakespeare. Start reading that book with some good dictionaries. Do that every day without fail. You'll feel a lot better in about 24 months. And be sure you exercise and stay away from sugar and junk food.

Well, if you count "3rd world countries", the majority of people in the world have probably never even been to school, so you almost certainly are more intelligent than the 51%. You can clearly type, so you are almost certainly more intelligent than the majority for that reason too.

You don't think you are superior, you ARE superior.

Uh, being intellectually superior to about half of the population is like having a precisely average IQ of 100, so it's actually statistically most likely that you would be there. What's to brag about?

Ask dappled what his IQ is, he's bound to rave about it.

  • Thing about autism is that you have too much on your mind. You are intelligent but my friend, who has autism, can't focus on one thing. Learn to focus on one subject and trust me your intelligence will show.

I seem to be able to do some things that other people find difficult but I generally feel that everyone else is better than me, because they seem to be able to do some things that I find difficult.

Some people are better physically, hence the olympics.
Some are better in mind, hence scientists and philosophers.
I think its reasonably normal to see people as dumber than you. We all tend to go with the flow and fit in, but within ourselves and at home we may be tons better than that.
ie Don't judge a book by its cover.

Not trying to be mean but, if you really do have all of those problems / disabilities, I'd say you aren't superior to anyone.

Yes it's normal, especially for people that actually are. However, if you're autistic you are most definitely INFERIOR to the majority of people (who are clearly stupid). Sorry buddy
