  • Islam is based on the God of the Bible just like Christianity and Judaism. So, even though no one was calling it Islam at that time, If you want to argue that Islam started with Adam and Eve, you can (and this is what Islam teaches). It is like saying Christianity started with Adam, not with Christ, and that Judaism started with Adam not with Abraham, which I would not agree with. But religion is all about belief, so if you choose to believe any or all of that, you are welcome to.

    But it is still a fair statement to say, as thegypsysailor did that Islam "as it is today" started with Mohammed. Muslims believe that the Quran is the direct word of God as given to Mohammed. As modern Islam is based in large part on this information, Mohammed was an important final piece in forming Islam "as it is today".
