I dont perceive God as having a gender as all things in the begining were genderless (evolution) I believe God is a form of consciousness without physical form.
For why most religions set God as a Male is the simple fact that god is often seen as an enforcer rather than a subservant. Fathers main task is to enforce rules and regulations to thier children while mothers guide and grow thier children.
