Is it normal to go into debt buying christmas decorations?

I only see my kids on the weekends so this year I maxed out my new wife's and my credit card, purchasing massive x-mas lawn decorations. My kids will love it but it's gonna take years to pay it off since we already live paycheck to paycheck.

I'm working in retail this year, and more than ever before it's making me absolutely hate the consumer-culture around Christmas especially.

People lose any little standards (and they're already low as shit) that they have throughout the rest of the year, and spend stupid amounts of money on overpriced shit they don't really want, need, or can afford.

Just for the sake of it too, "it's Christmas!", so we have to. Then we complain when the cost of everything goes up and up... well this is why, companies are getting away with ripping everyone off because there's too many people like OP, with "idiot" written across their foreheads, who buy into this.

Right on! They pay us as little as possible, charge us as much as they can. Then the CEO and stock holder takes our money and our hard work.

Going into debt was a completely stupid thing to do, especially because you were teaching your kids stupid spending habits by example. I, on the other hand, taught my kids how to profit from the seasonality of stock prices at the holiday season.

I am a smart rich Dad. You are a dumb ass plebian.

Oh, like in Trading Places when Billy Ray Valentine advises the Dukes to buy pork bellies at 64?

Honestly, although I'm a Roman Catholic, and I love Christmas in that I love the birth of the baby Jesus, however I am not a fan of really excessive Christmas decorations. I want to see Nativity stuff! I don't give two shits about Santa Claus and Frosty the Snowman, because it's just a bunch of make believe over commercialized bullshit designed to guilt people into spending way too much money and going into debt.

As long as the kiddies get a five-second thrill from seeing all the gaudy plastic crap piled on your lawn, that's all that matters, isn't it? Never mind that you can't afford to buy them new shoes or anything they might actually need, you've given them an excellent lesson in how to be good little consumer drones. Make sure you show them the credit card bills so they can see just how much you love them.

We had "Christmas" in January one year when I was a kid, so my parents could buy toys in the January sales.

I didn't understand it at the time, but it seems very sensible now.

what would Jesus do? oh wait , Jesus had no fucking kids think about that one. the savior of all of mankind forgot to make a baby. so let's celebrate him by digging our own financial grave to please the kids he never had. And another thing while we're on the christmas thing , its easy to turn the other cheek for a punch when you got a big old pillow beard on your face . yea i bet you think we didnt notice.

Don't you read Dan Brown? Okay, so he's a pretty crap writer, but his fiction is just as plausible and believable as the guff in the Christian Big Book of Fables.
