Is it normal to get your hair cut once every 3 months?

Vanilla question I know...

I'm a girl. I'm not really into hair. I hate having my hair cut but I like the convenience of short hair - no need to tie it back, you can leave the house with it wet and it's dry by the time you get to work...

This is the first year I've had my hair short and I'm trying to put off shelling out my hard-earned cash for another haircut as long as respectably possible. I don't want it to look unkempt at work, though. I'm already chaotic enough so you'd notice, and a hairstyle that looks like a dog's dinner on top of that would do my credibility no favours at all.

What's normal?

Yes, for women with long hair 6
No, not for women 1
Yes, for men 5
Yes, for women with most hairstyles 8
No, not for men 1
No, not for women with short hair 1

The hair of an adult man or woman can stretch 25 percent of its length without breaking.

I cut my own hair. It gets easier over time. You just need help with the back

Yeah she does the back but I fade it myself. She just gets the line straight in the back. I get tired of the way barbers cut my hair because my hair grows weird. Its very thick but theres a widows peak. So if they dont leave it longer on the temples I look bald. If you dont cut it too short you cant tell.

I go years without visiting a hairdresser. I don't use any heat styling tools so my hair doesn't get damaged or split.

How?? I dont do anything to m th hair that damages it I always have splits. It goes down just past my nipples so maybe it's to long?

I'm not sure to be honest. All I know is that whenever I go I always let them know how many years it's been since I've had a cut, and they are always shocked to find no split ends.

I always assumed it's because I don't use any styling tools or products. If it isn't that then I'm not sure... Maybe it's genetic? I also don't brush it very often. Sounds gross but is supposed to be very good for your hair, and I don't think you can tell by looking. People always say my hair looks nice even when it hasn't been brushed for a few days.

Also I am pregnant a lot. Maybe this helps?

  • White, female, British, nearly 30. Fine hair, lots of it. Dandruff issues. Crazy substitute middle school English teacher in the Catholic school loop. Needs to look professional to compensate for chaotic working habits.

My sister used to work as a long term substitute art teacher.

You're British but you're a middle school teacher?

      • I'm not teaching in Britain. I teach English as a foreign language on the European continent.

I see! Sounds good. I have a lot of friends who did this and they all said they really enjoyed it.

Really depends on your race. I mean this in the context of hair growth. Asian hair grows the fastest. Caucasian hairs grow the second fastest with the added bonus of being the highest density of hair. Why Africans have the slowest growing hair which is the most prone to damage. Depending on what your race is the largest determining factor on often you should cut your hair to retain the style.

That makes sense. I always wondered why so many black women have short hair

      • In Europe the fashion for black women seems to be long hair... often braided.

In the country seems like a lot of black women have very short hair

growth is relative, black people's hair appear to grow slower because their hair moves in extreme coils instead of just growing straight so of course other races should've longer hair faster, but technically with the right conditions every race should produce roughly the same amount of hair from the scalp
