Is it normal to get annoyed when people bring up sad moments of their life for pity?

It pisses me off when people start an argument and then casually bring up some tragedy from their past like they want you to feel bad for arguing back. It's manipulative. is it normal to have no pity for people who use their past trauma to try to guilt trip you into letting them walk over you?

Yes, my ex uses being trans as leverage against me when talking bad about me to her peers (I'm queer, don't give me "uuuuuu trans people ALL suck!!!"). It really sucks because in her groups, being trans is a trump card for any behaviour, abuse included from what I've experienced. I wish there wasn't such an echo chamber complex in some of these cases.

It's just like movies or shows.

The writers go out of their way to make you hate a character in the beginning by making them out to be a complete asshole and then ONE SCENE happens where they tell some sob story and suddenly I'm not supposed to think theyre and asshole anymore!? THEY'RE STILL AN ASSHOLE!

Then to make matters worse, the main character usually ends up falling for them just after hearing their short sob story in some garbage scene with bgm that's supposed to make them seem like some kind of angel now

It's like "get away from me you're a piece of shit!" and the other person is like "well my mom died when I was 5" and then the main character is like "omg I've been such a jerk to this person. Their mom died when they were 5 how could I have been so cruel to them? Do you want to start over again? Hi my name is___ wanna go get coffee sometime and be completely in love by the end of the movie without you ever having to go through the process of working on your shitty personality on screen?"

I hate that shit. As soon at that happens i shut down and walk away. Later if they speak to me again I bring it up right off and tell them to shut up.

    Amen!

There was this girl freshmen year who I got in an argument with over men. She asserted that men could not control their urges and were the selfish agressors in relationships and women were always the victims ect. Then I pushed back saying not all men are that way and women have problems to and she went on this big sob story about how her dad abused her mom and threatened her and shit and called me a horrible person for pushing back. Emotions really do get the best of people let me tell ya.

Honestly, I completely lose sympathy for someone that becomes bitter from their past traumas and obnoxiously uses it to paint all people of a certain race, gender, orientation, or age under the same brush. They just suck the positivity out of the room and are a complete and utter waste of time to deal with.

Yes mate I totally agree. If their is one logical fallacy that bugs the shit out of me, that is it. One person of a particular group does something, there for all members of that group are like that. People need to realize that their expirience is finite and bisaed.
