Is it normal to find clothes so unneccercarily gendered in this day and age?

I wear what i like not what is 'appropriate' to my gender in specific.

Sure i might be iffy with showing too much skin.

But if i felt like it i'd wear a suit one day and a dress the next and apparrently that rubs people the wrong way when it is ME wearing the clothes and not them.

My opinion is that 'its just clothes and i wear what i like. It's fabric and not something that needs to be gendered so damn much /what is your problem/

Given my opinion is probably a minority but i'm still curious over what others might think of this and why as i often get told nothing other than 'its's wrong' when it is society that has decided to gender clothes so much in lieu of just letting people wear what strikes their fancy.

In liue of trying to cram this 'your this gender! Dress ore femminine/masculine! Quit being a deviant!' Point of view down your throat.

    • And a very valid opinion that is xD
That does seem to be a pretty common thing (womens clothes often lacking pockets, Or 'having pockets' but they are either A. Fake or B. Really tiny)

If you want to go thru life looking asexual then that is your right.
If you want to play up your masculinity or femininity then that is your right as well.

    • On that topic i probably as far as sexuality goes fall more along the lines of grey-asexual (being attracted to somebody sexually is super rare for me rather than liking somebody aesthetics-wise) so that was probably just a pretty good guess on your part whether it was intended as such or not xD (in this case it was probably an example throwaway line)

I tend to go with how i feel like dressing that particular day. Which often leads to people nit picking me and i have been told before to make up my mind in regards to whether i like more feminine or more 'masculine' clothes when it's like 'can't i like both?'

How do you look asexual. What does that even mean?

        They meant genderless.

      • I have no idea how the person would come to that conclusion either.

Asexuality is basically not being sexually attracted to anything/anyone.

Although i have no clue on how that would reflect on clothing choice.

        Google "SNL Pat".
Does Pat look like Pat is a sexual animal?

I dont. Im using he because I didnt bother to write he/she/whatever the fuck you want to be. Its rather long so I chose the shortest option which was he. If they want get offended they can but I dont really care about pronouns there meaningless.

People will give you a stare if you look ridiculous. Just how it is.

Can you really fault society for dressing what is appropriate for their sex? You have your right to an opinion, just like everyone else has the right to dress "normally."

    • What is considered appropriate though is in itself a social construct.

But eh you have a point regardless.

Look, as long as it's nothing too outrageous, you should be fine to wear whatever. But obviously if you dress too far out of 'societies' norms, then you are gonna cop some flak, it's the nature or the world we live in. By all means dress comfortably but remember, 'Gender fluidity' is for suckers.

    • The funny part is i dont even HAVE to dress outrageously for people to get bitter over it xD
I just wear pretty normal-ish modest things (even if it is occasionally albeit outdated or old fashioned)

You have the right to dress however you want. By going against society norms you are inviting confrontation. Why do that? You seek the negative attention? Haven't had your ass kicked in awhile?
It's your right to try and intentionally piss some folks off. It's their right to take you on a trip to fist city if it ruins their day.
My advice to you would be to just stop it. Just stop doing that.

Sure you have a right to dress like a sack but I have the right to not find that attractive.

Your opinion is modern, misguided, and all too common. First and foremost, men and women are shaped differently. Secondly, clothes fit demand: most men want to look more masculine, and most women want to look more feminine. That's normal.

The only people yelling at you to 'dress more feminine/masculine' are your disappointed parents.

    • Eh no not really i get it from quite a few people.

And as far as the body types thing goes they are typically tailored more towards 'that gender' but i'm -believe it or not- a weird as fuck body type that's not more masculine leaning but more feminine leaning either but certainly not andrgynous but rather a mix of the two thrown in a blender thrown on a solid -and sadly not very wiry- frame. (Sure they tend to cater to 'more common' types which is not me -It sounds really stupid but- some combinations make finding clothes that fit hell without much difficulty literally all my problems would be solved if i was more lithe of frame and andrgynous believe me as what woukd fit in the shoulders is too short, ect. I 'cant afford to be picky' but i'm picky anyway because i'd rather not waste money on clothes i'd rather give away than look at any longer)

So it's actually pretty hard to find stuff that fits anyways unless it's custom made sooo i tend to wear whatever fits if i like it. But alas despite not liking to show too much skin i also don't like to wear stuff that's too close fitting/clingy so my choices are skewed further as my skeletal frame isnt slender to begin with...So i -as misguided as you like to think i am (which i am holding no offense to)- tend to make do with what i like that fits (and it personally makes me happier than only wearing 'what i should be' wearing) which always drives my mother up the wall (and always has) but my mother isnt the only culprit here chewing me out for it xD
...Not that her opinion ever mattered to me anyways because she never cared about anything regarding me unless it -in her opinion- reflects badly on her.
