I feel you with the reatil jobs thing they suck! Perhaps try to get something in a bar or restaurant, although it is easier here in the UK is it is legal to drink at 18 so a job in a bar is easier to obtain. You could apply for a photography course at your local college for next year. That way you will not only get the chance to meet new people but you will have the feeling that you are doing something with your life. Until then though, do try and get a job for at least a couple of hours per week, or even volunteer, it will give you could experience when applying for jobs and may also give you a purpose. Good luck.
I am from Australia, so I am legally an adult at 18. I could try bars, but that wouldn't be possible until september.
Thanks for agreeing with me on the photography thing. I was also thinking about art as another course. I will apply for these courses if I cannot get a job by around Septemember (that's when applications open up). If I do that I will know that I have secured something for the next year.
IIN to feel like i wasted a year?
