Is it normal to fall in love with an animated character?

About four years ago, I started watching a show called My Little Pony: Friendship is magic. It's wonderful cast of characters caught my attention, and it's great stories and memorable adventures kept me coming back for more. One character in particular caught my eye. Twilight Sparkle: the smart, happy and introverted pony had my heart from the very start. I have fallen madly in love with this character. I know it's hopeless as she is an animated pony in a fictional cartoon, but I can't help but think of her every second of everyday. It's gotten to the point where I have a picture of her on my desk at the office. I almost even broke up with my fiance because of my feelings for her. I don't want to hurt her but it feels like I no longer have feelings for my soon-to-be-wife, and I can't just call off the wedding because of an animated pony in a kid's cartoon. I just don't know what to do. I don't think it's normal, but maybe there are other people in the same boat as me. Please, i need answers or advice!

Is It Normal?

  • Dear op.,
These cartoons are made to look perfect and inspire little children so it's normal for one to 've fascinated a bit towards them. But your case is extreme and you know that it's harming your emotional and social life.

There are few suggentions that may help you but you may find them difficult to follow. You may decide according to what you think is best for you.

Spend more time with normal people.
It means people in general. Who don't express themselves as too attractive. They don't wear too much makeup or show off their expensive suits and cars.
Make more friends and spend time with them.

    Pick up a hobby.
Play music, dance, sing, act, play soccer, football, baseball or anything you like. If your hobby involves a group activity it will be better.

Stay away from the thing that harms you.
Refrain from watching it. Yes. It's difficult but you can and must do it if you want to take your emotional life from the pit.

Communicate with your to be wife.
In general. Speak to her, spend time talking, tell her about your new hobbies. Tell her if you are improving and express your happiness about it. Ask her how she is doing and listen. She is a wonderful woman. You will like and appreciate things she will say. She will like your attention too.

It depends on your will. It's easy to mend your emotions of you want to.
    I wish you the best.

  • This seems to be really common these days. I have no idea why.
It's normal to be attracted to a fictional character, an actor or even a cartoon, but at the end of the day it's just a fantasy. It's abnormal and unhealthy for it to be any more than a fantasy or a thought..

You must realise that you can't make it with a fictional character, let alone a cartoon pony, so isn't that enough to make you forget about it?

  • Well, from what I find, you are not alone in your crush on a fictional character, even of the mlp variety. Anyways, I found a place that may be able to help, and completely non judgemental, some in almost similar predicament.
