I think it's fairly common for guys to decide that they will taste it the next time they wank, but after the big event, they lose interest. (This is probably an evolutionary thing. If our male ancestors really loved the taste of their own semen, it wouldn't have been used to make babies!)
I think what you're doing is uncommon, but it's not unhealthy and it's certainly more hygienic than using an old sock or something. If you wanted to be a little kinky, you could experiment with different foods and see if they really do affect the taste. Does eating loads of pineapple really make it nicer?
