Is it normal to constantly oversleep?

The typical "right" amount of sleep for adults is 8 hours, and I feel like that's just not enough. Back to high school, there were points where I would literally fall asleep at 6 pm and wake up for school at 7:30 am, still feeling tired. I wanted to stay awake to finish homework etc., but literally couldn't because I was so tired and all I wanted to do was sleep. I've never felt "fully awake." Typing right now, I slept from 12pm - 10am, then taking a nap at 1pm - 2pm. I feel like I could fall right back asleep but I keep trying to force myself to stay awake.

At work, I always have caffeine because without it and no matter how much sleep I get, it would be a miserable shift of me just wanting to go home and fall asleep. I wake up a couple times throughout the night which is normal for me, about 5 minutes, then fall right back asleep. I always dream heavily and can usually remember what I dreamt about through the day and then go to the next night.

Is there something wrong with me, or am I just being super lazy?

I think you should tell your doctor about this, and that he, or she ought to recommend a sleep study for you. It's quite possible that you might have a sleep disorder such as sleep apnea.

    • I don't think my breathing is the problem with me sleeping too much...

Google sleep apnea: it's not just about breathing incorrectly and people who have it usually don't know until it's diagnosed.

        • Yeah, actually you guys could very possibly be right. I keep yawning constantly and that's a side effect of sleep apnea. But I'll also need a professional opinion haha.

I read somewhere that the best amount of sleep is 7 hours.

This happens to me too sometimes... But now that I'm on holiday I feel I have way more energy. Maybe it's a mental thing. Do the things that you have to do make you happy or drain you mentally and emotionally? Maybe deep down you don't want to be awake and face the things you have to in your life? Or if it's not that maybe it is something physical.

Anyways, you should check with your doctor.

But yeah I think so. I have a weird blood problem so maybe that's the cause of it lmao.

What weird blood problem do you have? Is it being treated? If so, ask your doctor if it could be affecting your sleep patterns.

        • I don't really know, it's just something within my family. Possibly something to do with iron deficiency or something of that sort. I haven't been to the doctor in a very long time though so I'm not positive on any of that. Currently urgent care is my doctor.

I think it’s rather the mental issues
Blood problems would likely be the cause of exhaustion and being tired, except it’s something like high blood pressure or really specific stuff I don’t know about

    • I didn't start drinking caffeine until April of this year and it keeps me awake but hasn't necessarily changed my sleeping habits with it
