Is it normal to confuse noises with voices?

Many times I'll hear a noise and I'll think it's a voice so it'll feel like someone in my house is calling me or talking to me but nah, it was just a noise I mistook for someone's voice.

I'm not schizophrenic I think.

I often hear the sound of our phone ringing in music. It's really obnoxious.

Actually I used to sometimes think I heard the phone ringing especially when I was using a hairdryer.

I think I might get spooked a lot easier living alone if I didn't have my Siamese cat. I honestly feel like cats, and dogs make a house feel more like a home, and kinda keep bad vibes at bay. I honestly think animals kinda keep bad spirits away, but I also think ones belief in God is helpful as well.

Does this happen mostly at night or after having taken diphenhydramine hydrochloride (Benadryl) or other antihistamines and/or sleeping medications?

Auditory hallucinations/distortions are really common thereon, particular transformations of other sounds to human voices or the perception of human voices just lower in decibels being masked by louder, existent noises.

    • The nasal drops I use constantly have diphenhydramine (0,1g) and also naphazoline, but I don't take anything else.

That's a normal reaction. Your brain tries to make noises fit existing patterns... and many noises can sound similar to words.

The brain also tries to make things you see fit into patterns as well... Do some web research on optical illusions... What you believe you see... is not what you are actually seeing.
