Is it normal to be possessive of my little sister?

I was always close to my little sister. I even made sure she felt comfortable with telling me absolutely anything. If anyone does something wrong or is mean to her, then she is always sure to tell me. Now that I'm on vacation, I realized that I'm extremely possessive of her. When my mom said someone else could take her out to do something fun so I wouldn't have to do it, I flat out refused and said I would take her. I don't want anyone to take her anywhere unless I am present. I'm almost 22 and she is 8 years old. I've been taking care of her since I was 14. I wonder if people would think this sort of attachment is sick or ridiculous in some way.

    There's only a three year age difference between my younger sister and I. I've spent a large portion of my life wishing I had been an only child. My sister is an obsessive compulsive narcissist. I cannot imagine feeling the way you have described about my younger sister.

      Not all are self centered egotistical hags like you who thinks caring for other people and being worried about them is being possessive, just because you really do not care about anyone and use people and think everyone is the same as you, ofc you are envious of your little sister who is perhaps 1000 times the person you are!

    Can't really say, I'm an only child. However, I did have a possessive mother. She wanted me to be her baby girl forever, and keep me safe from the world. Thanks to her, I missed out on a lot of milestones I should have met as a teenager (1st job, learning to drive, etc), but had to do once I was well into my 20's.

    I think it's nice you love and want to protect your sister, and at 8 years old, it's okay to have a watchful eye on her in case of pedophiles and such; but once she's a teenager, ease up a bit.
