I've always been a huge fan of the Roman empire. It was the coolest civilization the world has ever seen and I really wish I could've been a part of it.
The Roman Empire was a hedonistic paradise for the elite 1%. In that sense it is exemplary for today's policy makers. However, the plebeian 99% were abused for pleasure which was counter productive. Working people with high skill levels must stay current with technology to create fantastic wealth that the Roman Aristocracy never had.
Eventually, all great civilizations collapse under their own weight. Ignorant liberals of today's superpower governments would be wise to take note.
Don't forget the slavery. Something like 40% of the population of ancient Rome were slaves. And life was pretty grim for just about everyone else who wasn't born into the top strata of the society.
"Bread and circuses" weren't invented because the rulers liked throwing good parties. The point was to keep the general population distracted so they didn't riot.
Nero allegedly using Christians as candles always sticks out in my mind when anyone mentions the Roman empire.
What an ambience it must have created whilst enjoying your evening repas among your closest friends.
It is ok for u to be a fan and to be fascinated by it. But you shouldn't want to be a citizen of the Roman Empire, since life back then wasn't as good as you think. Most historical books won't reveal everything you need to know in order to have a fair view of a regular person there.

Lots of people are fascinated by the Roman Empire, it's pretty normal to be fascinated with the Roman Empire, the Ancient Greeks, Ancient Egyptians, etc. So what are you going to do with these feeling? Do something productive, and take a college history class! Learning is fun!
