Is it normal to be fat yet very fast?

Hi everyone, I'm 5'7 weighing 230 pounds with about 30% bodyfat. I played football for a while I weightlift and I am an active person, just my eating habits aren't great. I want to know why when I play a sport I am sometimes faster than skinny guys that play with me, I'm fat, but fast it makes no sense!!! I ran a 5.8 40 yard dash by the way.

Is It Normal?

  • ya know,it takes fat to be able to have energy for explosive tasks like lifting insanely heavy weights.......u just have to be able to access that fat energy, which alot of fat people cant do,but you can....its just your body type

  • It's possible to be overweight and yet have an athletic frame under the fat. Oliver Hardy is a good example. Everyone thinks of him as a big guy and definitely not sporty, but he was considered the best player in his American football team.

  • You work out, so your stamina is there. A lot of people that are overweight dont work out, so they dont know their potential. It could be partially genes. Its probably true that you would run even faster with less weight on you but you wouldnt be as sturdy in football :)
