Is it normal to be disturbed by people getting plastic surgery?

Recently, I've been coming across more and more people who have gotten cosmetic surgery. I remember seeing my first real-life person with breast-implants about half a year ago and ever since I keep meeting more people (a girl with a nose and lip job and another girl with breast implants, ..). They are normal people, they aren't famous or on tv or something but they tend to act as if they were more important than others. And I just find it disturbing how someone with a healthy body would let themselves get cut open for large amounts of money out of pure vanity. If they had had a disfiguring disease or car accident before, I would totally understand, but just to look better is insane in my eyes. Am I overreacting?

The culture that surrounds plastic surgery is an unhealthy one. The tactics used in it are very similar to the tactics the media uses to promote being thin, causing eating disorders and poor self-esteem. The plastic surgery mentality is easily targets people with poor self-esteem and it has targeted people who were secure with themselves into thinking that there was something wrong with them. I can understand if you need cosmetic surgery for something medical, but otherwise, no.

I don't like it either. I would never tell them unless, they asked for my honest opinion.

Since it isn't YOUR body yeah, you are overreacting.
Same as with people who complain about tattoos and piercings, none of their business what others put themselves through in order to look better.

    • But I'm not telling these people in their faces that they shouldn't do it!

      • Also, why should they be allowed to post pictures of themselves, promoting surgery as this awesome thing but I can't make a post about my opinion on surgery on an anonymous website?

You can post any topic you want on this site, that's what IIN is for ^^
But reactions will come, and I don't get how one can be bugged about what other people do to themselves when it isn't affecting you at all.

          • But it is affecting me, if more and more people in my surroundings are saying how plastic surgery is this great thing, like I am abnormal for not wanting any.

            • And it bothers me that there is this huge wave that thinks it's ok to abuse people who don't look perfect and constantly work out and find plastic surgery completely normal while there isn't really a large wave against it of people who promote being natural and valuing health and knowledge more than being a shallow narcissist.

That, however, is normal. To be irked for not wishing to go through surgery. That's a perfect reason to be bugged by it in my book.

Sorry, *if it is medical and identity related.

Maybe it's time to let other people do their thing and put less effort into judging their decisions, then creating fake social constructs to support your opinion.
