Sometimes, this crap is just about bonding and feeling part of a community with shared interests and attitudes. However, sometimes people who are obsessed with celebrities and gossip are living their lives vicariously through them, and that's a lot less positive.
It sounds like you have wider interests and you're possibly more emotionally mature (and maybe brighter) than the people you hang out with. You're not alone in disliking all the profit-driven crap associated with manufactured celebrities. I'd suggest you need to look for a different circle of friends.
