Is it normal to be close friends with somebody who knows you like them?

A really close friend of mine, who I dated 3 times but it never worked out, knows I like her a lot. I mean a lot.

She's fine with this, but doesn't like me back. I understand that, it just didn't work. What can a guy do, right?

But is it normal, for us to be very close friends, and her to be aware I'm checking her out and flirting with her (hopelessly) but still want to be my close friend?

    My best friend is a girl too. I check her out and we flirt but it doesn't mean much. Haha one she caught me looking down her shirt. That was an akward rest of the day.
