Is it normal to be afraid to quit my job after 17 yr of dating the boss?

I have been with him since I was 23 years and when he decided to take some time I did not quit my job. I can't. I fear I cannot function without him in my life. Is that normal? I am 40 years old and single and do not know if I can start over.

    I'm sorry, but it doesn't sound like your boss has been very considerate of your feelings, stringing you along for 17 years and not marrying you? He doesn't sound like he's worth much to me. I know it will be hard to move on, but it seems like the right thing to do in this case.

    Always promised we would when issues would pass then another would come up. He had children from previous so when they graduated and so on.
