Someone once told me on this matter that part of the problem is that doctors nowadays are more than willing to diagnose people with mental illnesses if it means they can make more money from their patients. I havent done much research into this so I wouldn't know.
Anyway, I used to feel like everyone around me was being 'too overtop' and maybe thinking they had a serious mental illness when they didn't. I then got closer to them and realized that most of them DID have real, deep-rooted problems. It only felt like everyone around me was like this, because those tended to be the kinds of people who surrounded me. Maybe I attract those kinds of people because I'm friendly, idk honestly. I do not doubt that there are people who ARE being too overdramatic though, I've definitely seen a few. I would say it's a normal thing to assume that people around you are faking illnesses, though in my experience, they tend to think they actually have them.
On the topic of therapists though, I don't think there's anything wrong or 'going overboard' about scheduling sessions with a therapist, regardless of whether or not you have a mental illness. It's a healthy way to get things off your chest and discuss your problems.
IIN to assume that half of the users on this site aren't really ill?
