  • I study a lot of social-cultural history of the USA. In the 80s it was hip to do coke. In the 90s it was hip to be dark, grunge and goth. In the 2000s it was hip for everyone to get a trophy. In the 201xs it seems hip to have asocial disorders (aka be shy), be asexual (be a virgin)...etc. if there really was so much mental illness on the planet, society would come to a complete and utter standstill. Too many doctors hand out meds instead of telling patients it’s normal to be shy once in a while, you’ll get laid eventually, and mommy yelling at you to clean your room does not equate to PTSD.
Up until the late 70s, corporal punishment was the norm for throwing a tantrum, now it’s a promise of the latest gen of Xbox and a trip for ice cream if you’ll be good. Bad behavior gets attention and rewarded and kids clue right into that and sadly expect it in adulthood. IMO.
