Is it normal this bugs me?

So at a group I go to the leader brought their 10 year old son, and the discussion of age appropriateness came up a lot. The kid mostly just drew with markers and didn’t really pay attention, but when we talked about the movie SAW he got curious but his mom didn’t want him to know about it, and she mentioned she didn’t take him to PG13 movies (tbf she said that PG13 these days is different than it used to be).

It’s weird to me because I watched plenty of R rated movies like SAW when I was his age and LOVED them! (And so did a lot of kids in my grade!) It’s strange to me to think that someone of his age would be bothered by something like it, but in all fairness his mom did mention the fact she was a mother played a part, so I guess I just don’t relate to that perspective.

    Movie ratings are a joke

I wouldn't say you're normal and neither is the kids mom. While I wouldn't go so far as to say SAW is an appropriate movie for a ten year old, PG13 movies definitely are. In conclusion I deem you both nuts.

    • Speaking from my own experience I wasn’t bugged by that movie at that age, and most of my classmates weren’t either.

I mean but that's you. If I had been taken to see that movie when I was ten I would have been traumatized.

what is this group? Saw movies are really morally complicated for a 10 year old and I wouldn't let my child watch them.

    • It’s for writing, and I guess to be fair I saw the first one at 11 and not 10, but having heard things about it online I already knew that Jigsaw thought he was good but really wasn’t. I feel like if you understand torture=bad you can understand at least the first movie. Admittedly I was disappointed that it wasn’t as scary as I had hoped.

I can understand not letting him watch SAW at the age, but not letting him watch PG13s is too much

I agree. Also, "PG13 these days is different than it used to be" is a very stupid statement. There It's the PG movies that have actually changed. Most movies made in the 80's and 90's that were rated PG would probably be rated PG-13 now.

Right, I’ve heard how it’s crazy that Frozen and Raiders of the Lost Ark have the same rating!

😂 My 8 year old has seen all the Indiana Jones movies! I think that he’s a fantastic role model for young boys. Fuck Frozen.

    • I watch it when I was 11 and was fine with it, the first one really wasn’t that gory
