Is it normal these types of halloween costumes and decorations appeal to me more?

So I love Halloween, and I enjoy modern slashers just fine, but there’s something I find more interesting about older concepts. For example The Grim Reaper is a rather old concept, ancient in fact, and he’s a popular staple of the holiday. Same with The Devil. Or any ghost story or urban legend, or even a book character.

Let me explain: with a movie you watch the whole thing fold before your eyes, but with a book or a story you hear, it’s up to your imagination, which in my opinion makes it even spookier. We all know what Michael Myers and Jason Voorheese look like, but what The Devil or The Grim Reaper look like are up to interpretation (same with Jack the Ripper. As a side note I used to think he was an urban legend until I learned more about him, all I knew was the name so I assumed he must’ve been one of those type of characters).

Not to knock horror movies or people who like them and their characters, but I’ve always preferred these types. Am I alone in thinking this? Does what I just said even make any sense? Let me know!

When I was in junior high school this awful girl who used to bully everyone once actually dressed up as a cockroach for Halloween.

She once stole a pair of sneakers from my gym locker when we were in 7th grade. I asked her about the sneakers, and she lied about it, but I knew they were mine from the tiny holes on the back of the sneakers. I told on her, to my parents, and school officials. It was decided for me that she should be allowed to keep the sneakers. It's was for the best, because I wouldn't want her cooties, I hope she enjoyed my pecuecas so she could have a worn out pair of Nike running shoes.

        They looked like these:

When I say cooties I just mean germs really.

Then about a year later, she was walking around the halls at school holding a bug in her hand that was probably just a June bug, but I usually embellish a little and say it was a cockroach. She was coming up to random people, and sticking the bug in their faces, probably to see if it scared them. I figured if someone was scared she'd probably put the bug on them.
