Maybe, just maybe, they are tired of liking people who show off expensive clothes and accessories. Just because you wear the "better" clothes doesn't automatically make you more attractive or likeable.
Some people like something they can put themselves in. They won't buy clothes for over a hundred euros even if they had the money. They are used to other things.
I could theoretically afford it, but I don't see the benefit. I wouldn't like it either.
But my clothes are a signifier of my wealth, which has allowed me to experience things other's haven't. This means I am a more attractive, likeable person, because I've have more attractive, likeable experiences.
