Is it normal the universe terrifies me

The older I get the less interested I am in the distractions of life and when I think about what is actually going on, in this thing we call life and the universe, I get terrified.

It seems to me, in an infinite universe that no other conclusion can be reached, other than it all being pointless.

It also terrifies me that I don't really know if any one else exists, or if they are a figment of my imagination. I can't read minds, and everyone lies, so I am basically all alone, in an infinite universe, on a world full of deceptive creatures, that may or may not exist.

How does this not terrify everyone??

I would love to chat with the author of this post. I feel like this almost 100% of the time and it consumes my thoughts. Not just this but bordering subjects as well.

Why did you bother to ask?

And honestly once I realized I had said that and had no way of actually messaging you I was so embarrassed I almost died and just wanted to escape the situation. I was hoping that you might realize the same thing I did on your own.

No I am not upset, I was just curious. Nothing to be embarrassed about at all.

Okay I had just wanted to clarify that ASAP because I really do not enjoy when people are upset with me at all hahaha. Thank you.

Well if you are new to this site brace yourself, because people will hate on you for sport. Not me, but many here will. Take it with a grain of salt.

I'm sorry I didn't mean to seem like I was ignoring that, neither of us have a membership and I haven't been here long enough to chat. It was sort of something I really wanted to do, but was content with it seeming like I was just thinking out loud. Sorry if I upset you, I'm not really sure that I did, I'm just going off of the way your question reads to me. I'd still totally be open to talking once I have been here a week and have enough points.

I feel there are a lot people who are terrified to know the things that are actually out there and knowing that they will never find out unless it’s going to be in a negative way.

Steven Hawking warns us not to be sending signals to alien life out there. He says if they're anything like we are (a survival based life form), we're in big trouble. We have no idea what they could utilize us for. The torment could go on for ever.

Do you ever just stare into the abyss for like a really long time?

    • Long enough that what I saw scared the crap out of me. I was camping with my dog when I posted this, not very far from civilization but far enough that the clear sky was lit up with stars. It was completely silent except for a light hum.

We were sitting by the fire and what is usually a peaceful, beautiful, serene place place for me, suddenly became overwhelingly dark and lonely.

The hairs stood up on the back of my neck and I have never felt more alone. When this feeling came, my dog whimpered, ran to the tent and scratched to get in. This is a dog that would try to stay out all night if she could.

I didn't even tend the fire. I ran to the tent as well, I got into bed and covered up and wrote that.

I felt if I had continued to look skyward I'd reach a point of insanity that I would never escape from.

It's going to be a while before I look again.

    • The wiki on that topic is so unreadable that it seems exhaustingly confusing and incoherent. I have enough of that in my life, but thank you for the suggestion.
