Tv shows and movies nearly always romanticize toxic characters, and has the leading lady end up with a horrible guy who in the end magically switches personality and becomes a decent person. In shows it's done because people get a kick out of watching the drama between those characters, and I suppose it satifies the whole "I could fix him"-thing that is a common mindset that isn't very realistic.
Shows are an escape from reality. Most comedy shows have horrible characters but that's why it's fun to watch. You probably wouldnt like those people in real life but on screen you do because the writers can give them redeemable qualities and amazing character development.
Those sleazeball characters are often the funniest characters on shows as well. They are written to have the funniest lines and interactions with other characters and that is what one likes about a character when watching a show. I think you read into fiction too much.
IIN that women love misogynistic characters on TV?
