Unfortunately it is NOT that uncommon of a problem. I do the same thing. The good news is these days there's facebook, and while I'm not a big facebook fan, every once in a while I'll remember someone I used to know well but have lost contact with and I can usually find them on there and get back in touch!
But also remember that moving is a big change and you are going to meet new people. Can you imagine how chaotic your life would become if you we always in contact with everyone you ever met and liked?
So give yourself a break, and do your best to get ahold of the people that you love and miss the most! :)
