The water lubricates the anal orifice and when you have gas, the powerful wind comes in contact with that wetness. Thus, making it feel like diarrhoea. This is my take on it.

I really like farting in the shower especially if you can engulf yourself in a cloud of sulfur. I create a gassy wonderland in my shower:)
