Is it normal that these beggers pissed me off?

We live in a ghetto rundown town full of crime and poor people. There was this couple with a child in the snow holding up signs begging for money. People gave them money, others told them stop faking it. I decided to follow them home one day, and I noticed that the town they were staying in was beautiful, the house they had was brand new, they had three new cars, and the people in the town were white. Why did they come to the ghetto to guilt US into giving them money so they could maintain this lifestyle meanwhile there are people in my town who are struggling to feed themselves?! We couldn't afford to give them money, yet we did because they said they were homeless and hungry!" Is this normal? These people stopped coming around once everyone caught on and threatened them.

One day at work and some guy was running around the parking lot with pamphlets for a local and sort of prestigious college, saying he just started working there and needed money to catch the bus.
Well after i shooed him off, he approached some other person who gave him money. After that, the panhandler got in his own car and left.
Now I am pretty smart, I can count to 20 without taking off my shoes but I cannot figure out why he needed bus money if he drives a car.

During good weather, there is this TEAM of panhandlers working the busy intersection close to my job. Sometimes they really patheticize the look by sitting in wheelchairs or acting blind. On rainy days they cover up in a tarp while in a wheelchair and wearing blind people glasses.

Most panhandlers don't even TRY to look down and out. Most of them are doing just fine.

I have heard of this happening, but I can't believe it's all too common. There was a woman who panhandled outside my old church for years, only on Sundays, then drove her nice car back to her nice house. Idk if that was true or not, but it did put me off somewhat.

And donating to charities often doesn't help those genuinely struggling, either. It's a shitty situation. We are very lucky to not be in it.

I would bet you a fresh $100 bill that the panhandler you saw had a nice car and house.
You would not believe how often that shit goes on.
You ever notice most panhandlers look like they showered at least within a day or two and have clean clothes?

Oh shit also - years ago I saw this panhandler with a sign that said, "Why Lie? I need a beer".

I don't think this happens much at all. Begging on a corner would net about $100 for 8 hours on a good day around Christmas time.

No one is buying houses and cars from begging.

More realistically, if your story is true, this family is in debt up to its ass and needed quick cash to buy fuel, food or pay an overdue electric bill before their power got shut off.

I feel this is a made up story concocted to stir shit up. I have a hard time believing you sat around one day waiting for them to stop their begging and followed them all the way to a different town and saw their lavish lifestyle. But if you did, good job Dick Tracy.

Yeah seriously how much money could you get in a day begging? $100 at most? If you have the skills to get credit, get a mortgage, pay for a house, buy multiple cars, pay insurance and taxes etc. there are a million actual jobs or better scams that would pay way more you could actually be doing lol.

    • This was an old situation. Back then I was paranoid and unhappy. I'd do a lot of dumb things to try to prove a point. This being one of them. I don't do dumb crap like this anymore, but the situation with them still feels abnormal to me. We still get people like this begging in front of shops and I'm reluctant to believe them because of this family. I can understand why you think it's a troll. There's plenty of that on here.

basically this stuff is not as bad as i previously thought. my brother said the person giving feels good about theirself and it helps the recipient. of course, the money could be used for something else, but on the same token other people were not there in the immediate area to ask for money. also, there are people who live off of this stuff. they should not make people feel bad for one, and having their baby out in the cold is ridiculous, but what i said at first was to get people to maybe calm down. not as big of a deal as it seems

My running tally of my most hated groups of people. Hardcore Islamist, "moderate" Islamist, communists, anarchists, hardcore Christian and Jewish groups, Beggers, gypsies (European caravans) and hardcore vegans. Everyone else is mostly fine in my book.

Some supposedly homeless do prey on people's sympathy.
It does make it impossible to tell the difference.
    My standard.
1 If you live in a successful country.
You are already better off then most.
2 I don't work, so I can give you money, for not working.
I give to people who lack opportunities, people in poor countries.
    It amazes,and shames me.
To see people struggling to come to america.
While trump wants to build a wall.
Yet, on the other side are people holding signs.
    Asking for hand outs.

There are people in other countries who play runescape a mmorpg like a 9-5 cause it pays better than any job tgere. Your making less than a dollar an hour on average doimg that. If on old school you can run several accounts but it would take quite a few to even reach our minium wage. It's pretty sad when you think about It

I have seen a similar situation before but not as extreme. Only the once though. I think the majority of people begging aren't living a luxurious lifestyle. I take the point that there are quite a few who claim to be homeless and aren't, but they are still usually living a very shitty life below the breadline, not livin it large in a swanky neighbourhood.

Completely normal. It's hard to distinguish between a legitimate poor person and those sons of bitches.

But one time I was surprised: at the exit of a convention I went, there were groups of poor people gathered around signs and such. They approached me, but instead of asking for money, they asked if I could share this on the social media. They didn't want money; they wanted people to recognize them, to show there are legitimate people suffering on the streets without food and shelter.

My tip? Approach one of those persons and ask them to come along and buy some food to them. If they're trully gratefull for that, amazing; if not, let them to rot.

Only sometimes homeless people genuinely need money for other stuff. Like a gym membership so they can use the showers. Personal hygiene products. Travel (ie a bus). Medicine. Etc.

I'm not saying that your idea is bad, not at all. But what if they've just eaten? They have to carry all their posessions, and fresh food doesn't last that long, they have nowhere to cook, etc. What if they have allergies? What about their food preferences?

As always, the answer is in prevention and/or education. Giving some food or spare change to a homeless person helps them in the here and now, but does nothing for their long term well being.
