Is it normal that the whole new years eve celebration makes me feel sad?

It seems like every year I get depressed during New Years Eve. The whole thing just reminds me of all the things I don't have or can't have, whilst everyone else seems happy and grateful. I also feel extremely lonely at this time even though I'm always surrounded by friends. By the time the clock strikes 12, I am fighting back tears. Is it normal to feel this way?

  • Same here on New Years. I find it a very depressing time.

  • I feel the same way. I spent New Year's Eve at my brother's girlfriends house and then left because I was feeling depressed. Try to focus on the good times you had instead of focusing on the bad ones. Try being grateful for what you have and live in the moment. Worrying and sadness is like a rocking chair, it doesn't get you anywhere. Hope this helps :)

  • I love it. New beginnings and shit, you know? I hope 2012 is a good year for you. I don't think this is normal, but I definatly think you're not alone.

  • Same with me. I felt depressed on new year and on my birthday. May be because I was thinking of getting older or something like that.
