Is it normal that some young males think it is cool to be in trouble with law

I do not see what would be so cool about losing one's freedom and being locked up with a bunch of bad guys.

Yet, some of these wanna-be gangsters think they are hard core because they got caught up in a legal mess.

The only thing it means to be in trouble with the law, at least in a criminal case, is that you were not smooth enough to not get caught.
I came across one youtuber who has tons of videos about his time in prison and while he offers plenty of advice for surviving the experience, you would think he enjoyed being in there.

I used to be in the military and have known plenty of ex-military and while we are proud to have served,we don't boast about it like some of these ex-cons.

The hell gives?

Congrats on serving from a fellow militaryman from Bulgaria.
Serving your country is a noble act and even if you brag about it and tell your stories, it's admirable, cause you did something good for the people you love and your country.

But that's the difference between real thugs, ones that have no choice, but live a life of crime and the hipstery wannbe garbage that wants to look edgy and tough, by scoring some weed and selling some to friends, throwing gang signs, saying "fuck cops" and all that nonsense. Occasionally being taken down to the station for a few hours, let off when mommy and daddy pay bail.

I bet you any money these "gangsta" types would cry themselves to sleep every night, if they get thrown in a real jail.

I think it's stupid. If you're gonna be a criminal, you go down that road properly and face the consequences, should you be caught. You also keep quiet, the more people know about your affairs, the worse it gets for you.
But a few tattoos, baggy pants, street slang and some Adderalls don't make you a crime boss, they just make you look like an idiot.

Personally, I like to stay on the right side of the law, only resorting to bribes for minor stuff like speeding and maybe in the future getting permits to build a new floor on my parents apartment without going through all the official steps.

It seems to me that a gangster type criminal is the exact opposite of someone who served in the military.

A gangster is useless in almost any setting. They are of no benefit to their country or to society. No one is saying you have to be of benefit, of course - you can be totally useless if you like. It's a bit sad though.
