Is it normal that some people assume i'm queer because of my haircut (pic included)?

I got my hair cut very short about a month and a halfish ago. Before that, it was halfway past my back. I just got tired of it because it was always in the way and it never looked good anymore. I guess it was very damaged because it looks much better now that it has been cut. It also feels more comfortable to have it short. I also happen to like the way it looks, but there actually has been a few people who have called me queer because of it. I guess it doesn't help that I don't dress girly at all to begin with.
