Is it normal that rape has spiked up in the usa military

I have a military family, even my mum was in it. So guess you can call me a military brat.

Is it normal that rape in the American (USA) military has spiked up around 2011-2013, and was really high in 2018 and still increasing.
Huge percentage of the victims are male, so doesn't seem because more women are joining right?
My dad thinks it's because of the full gay ban being lifted in 2011("don't ask don't tell"), he currently serves in the military and my older brother is gay and loved by him, so his opinion isn't coming from a homophobic mind. But I'm still not sure what's causing the rise in rape.

So what the hell is going on?

I wish rape was a capital offense, it really should be. People who rape others are an absolute waste of oxygen.

There's no way of knowing whether or not the figures indicate an actual increase or an increase in reporting because it's now not as difficult to report.

    • True didn't think of that.
Wonder what spiked their confidence. Hmm...

It's probably not that there's actually an increase in sexual assualt, just that it's more likely to be reported.

I dont believe those numbers. Smacking a girl on the ass is classified as rape now days.

What rubbish, of course it isn't. Maybe sexual assault or common assault, but anyone who knows anything knows that a smack on the bum doesn't constitute rape

Although the term 'sexual assault' is sometimes used to mean actual rape, it's a different thing: your example would be sexual assault, as would grabbing a woman's crotch or breasts, whereas rape involves actual penetration with no consent.

    • Wait rape?! Thought it would be sexual assualt. Damn if that's true that's a huge stretch!
