While I there is some truth to your GF's viewpoint about Japan; I believe its a bit on the extreme.
However, that is not the issue here. The issue is must you and her have a partner that shares all dreams and goals; or can you say: OK - your free to do that and I'm free to do something else for some things.
Solid relationships are built both on having a core set of shared activities, goals, and values; while at the same time allowing the other freedom to have and pursue activities, goals, etc that is specific to each partner.
Time apart fulfilling individual needs is just as important as time together fulfilling joint needs.
I see no reason why you have to take your GF to Japan. Go by yourself or with another friend. She can go somewhere she wants without you to.
