While I there is some truth to your GF's viewpoint about Japan; I believe its a bit on the extreme.

However, that is not the issue here. The issue is must you and her have a partner that shares all dreams and goals; or can you say: OK - your free to do that and I'm free to do something else for some things.

Solid relationships are built both on having a core set of shared activities, goals, and values; while at the same time allowing the other freedom to have and pursue activities, goals, etc that is specific to each partner.

Time apart fulfilling individual needs is just as important as time together fulfilling joint needs.

I see no reason why you have to take your GF to Japan. Go by yourself or with another friend. She can go somewhere she wants without you to.

I heard the most disturbing crimes from Japan, and the suicidal forest is even more creepy. When I think about Japan my first thought is sad depressing people.

But Japan is still beautiful, if you want your girlfriend to visit Japan with you I suggest watching Japan vlogs with her she might change her mind

Wish I could go to japan again. It's expensive and honestly I'm waiting for the statute of limitations to run out on theft because I accidently stole a smart phone when I moved and I was supposed to return it. Tried to retroactively close my account and pay the fees but they didnt have an english line open for those transactions.

As others have said your girlfriend has a heavily misguided view of Japan, perhaps if you show her how low the crime rate is and some of the interesting aspects of Japanese culture and history she could change her mind. If not you don’t have to take her just because she is your girlfriend, do you have friends or relatives who would want to go with you, or would you consider going alone?

I think Japan is overrated. Every single guy i've ever met my whole life who was even the tiniest bit into anime were practically obsessed with Japan.
I wouldn't wanna go either + it's a longass flight and I hate flying and it wouldn't be worth it to me so I wouldn't go either. If my partner said to me he wanted to go i'd say "bring a friend then", in all honesty.
