Is it normal that my favorite and happiest time each day is when i'm asleep?

For the past several years I've been happiest when I've been asleep. I have good dreams when I'm sleeping. I look forward to going to bed each night, and dread getting up in the morning. I wake up feeling peaceful and then realize I'm awake and the disappointment sets in. Sometimes I sleep 10 to 12 hours a day just to minimize the time that I am conscious. Other times I will lie in bed for hours after I naturally wake up hoping to go back to sleep so I can feel great again. I even envy the animals who hibernate because they can maintain this wonderful state of being so much longer. In short, I feel a profound sense of relief when each day ends and I can go back to sleep. Is this normal?

I feel exactly the same. Infact I think it's completely normal and a lot of people in the world feel the same way when they're stressed out or depressed.

I can really relate to that. I don't know anyone who loves sleeping as much as I do (except maybe my mom. It's probably genetic). It is my number 1 favourite "activity". So I know it's very easy to be made to feel guilty about it, since it doesn't benefit anyone but ourselves: we don't contribute, produce or consume whilst asleep. However, another way of looking at it is that at least we get our kicks for free. No need for harmful and unaffordable substances to alter our state of mind! :D
Then again similarly to drug addiction it can be seen as escapist behaviour, a fleeing from reality and in some cases it is a symptom of depression. So we probably should try harder to improve our waking lives in any way we can. That way it would be easier to resist the urge to climb into bed to leave it all behind.

  • Reality is such a hassle. Honestly though try stepping into the conscious world more often. You can't maintain a living sleeping all day. Dreaming is fun but don't forget that dreams aren't reality. They maybe close but don't lose your sense of reality.
