Is it normal that my dog hated tall people?

Back when she was alive, I remember that she always hated tall people. When a tall person was in our home she'd have her eyes glued on them and make this angry face at them the entire time. Her fur would stand. She might growl or give a small warning bark and she'd follow them at a distance. At some point, we put her outside or in the kitchen to get her away from what was stressing her. We're pretty sure she would've bit them if we didn't. IIN?

That's better than one of the dogs I had... she was a racist. :/

My friend had a rooster who would only attack dark skinned people. It bothered him so much I remember he made a post about it here. That rooster would just pursue anyone who wasn't pale and if they hid somewhere, he would stand there waiting for them to come out.

And bees, cicadas, flies, spiders, and any bug that got in her path. XD

Was she a rescue? Sometimes when a dog is mistreated it will remember certain traits about the person who mistreated it such as the persons gender or skin color and they will associate those traits with the mistreatment.

I have no clue about her previous families in the first two years of her life. All I know is that the first one was from Alaska, the second owner was a preacher from a town over, the third was my aunt. She then gave her to my family for some reason and we took care of her for 15 years.

Whoa, that's ancient for a husky! That's amazing.

Thank you. For the longest time I assumed she was part Black Lab, since she had a Husky body but was mostly black/had a white belly, but like a year or two or three after she died, my father told me she was an Alaskan Husky. It's not an official breed of dog and their size, color, and overall look greatly vary.

My family used to have the sweetest, most handsome little cat lad who... hated men. We always joked that my brother and one of his friends weren't real men since he didn't mind them.

Mine used to kill butterflies. They were playthings to her. I kind of wish she was scared of those instead.

Too many nice dogs are euthanized at the pound. If you have an aggressive dog, you should exchange it for one that deserves to be cared for.

Animals with behavior issues or who weren't raised correctly or grew up in abusive situations have weird aggression, or are scared/aggressive of people who have the traits of their abusers.

She must have felt intimidated by them...maybe she wasn't used to people their size, or, as someone else said, she had been mistreated by someone tall.

Or they were shitty people and she knew it?

Could be a number of those things. She's been to three different homes before mine and most of those families I knew nothing of. XD

Poor Blackie :( at least she had a good home with you.

My dog was always wary of new people, but she really hated men. The taller they were, the more she hated them...until she got to know them, then she'd worship them. All the men in our family are over 6 feet. My brother, who was around daily til the last 3 years of her life, is 6ft2-4, I think. I think she thought unknown tall men were the vet :( she hated him so much even though he was so good with her.

Awww. She probably did love him a little since she saw him often.
          :)

Blackie seemed to dislike men as well. My boyfriend is 6'4. While a part of me wishes she was around to meet him, a part of me knows she would've hated him, so it's not a good wish. XD

Maybe she's scared of tall people?

She was. I'm thinking she rarely encountered a tall person. They were always so scary to her. Deep voices and men would make her angry too.

My sister's first boyfriend lived next door to a German shepherd who hated men, it was kinda funny.

Whenever I hear about dogs fearing a gender, it's always men. I wonder if it's the deep voices that piss them off? XD

I dunno, I also think may be that sometimes a dog has been exposed to a man who is abusive.

The German shepherd that lived next door to my sister's first boyfriend was owned by a woman whose husband used to beat her. If I was out there by myself the dog could care less, but if Brett came out she was barking up a storm. She wasn't vicious though, I think she just didn't like men very much, she probably had PTSD.
