Is it normal that my cat prefers to eat his food off the floor?

We have this autofeeder that's pretty low to the ground. He'll just swat his food out of it onto the floor before he eats it.
He also likes to stick his paw in the water autofeeder and lick the water off his paw instead of just drinking from the feeder.

Anyone else's cat do this?

Yeah I had a lot of cats that did that to. You put the food in their bowl and they take it out of the bowl and put it on the floor. I think it must be some kind of instinct thing where they feel like they're eating live food off the ground

We got a wide flat bowl and our cat stopped doing this. When we had a normal bowl she would paw it out. The flat bowl keeps the food in a single layer instead of piled on top of each other.

You should look up whisker fatigue just to see if other symptoms match. If you think the cat has it you can get a "whisker friendly bowl" and try talking to the vet.

It sounds like he like playing with his food as though it were prey (knocking it around to make sure it's dead)

My sister's cat wants to be fed on the floor instead of in a dish and my cat tries to stir his water with his foot to make it cleaner. Then yes he will lick his foot too. Cats are funny, quirky creatures.

    I've seen 🐱s do this. It's a 🐱 thing.
