It is normal to talk to animals. They may not be able to understand the words but they can understand your motives and message you are trying to tell them by your body actions and tone of your voice towards them. So if you are showing affection towards an animal they know it and know you like them, if you are mad they know they have done something wrong etc etc.

Animals need attention from the human in their life. If they don't get it they feel lonely and can feel rejected, or like they have done something wrong or that the human in their life does not like them and get can depressed and sad as a result of it.

Animals can feel these types of feelings and understand us humans way more than a lot of people think they can and they can feel them to the level I mentioned.

It has also been proven that interaction with animals has major health benefits for humans as well.

So yes it is normal for your boyfriend to do this. It is normal to do it to any pet and it is actually very helathy not only for the pet but also for us as humans.

Dogs can better understand and interpret human body language, facial expressions and tone of voice than other humans. Dogs are more tuned in to human emotion than other humans. It makes sense to talk to dogs about stuff and thangs.

In public? That's a little much... you should tell him how you feel about that

    I talk to my dogs.

    Example

Me: Hi Squizzy how are you?
Squizzy: I'm doing good but Holly is pissing me.

    See normal!
