Is it normal that my body seems to change shortly after making lifestyle changes?

I just started eating healthy and exercising by walking for at least an hour everyday. I'm well aware that I may not have actually gained much, but I gained 4 pounds in 4 months. I'm doing something about it now before it gets worse because I've neglected insignificant weight gain before, but that's exactly why I ended up gaining too much weight. I was 145 pounds before I gained weight, but I weighed 149 pounds when I first checked my weight on Monday of this week. I'm also 23-year-old female who is about 5'7. I haven't checked to see if I lost anything yet, but I noticed that my body, specifically my abdominal area, seems to already be changing. Maybe it's the initial water weight/bloating that I'm getting rid of. Has anyone else noticed anything like this before?

Is this a joke of some kind? You're obsessing about four pounds, literally four pounds!

    • She might have a bit of an eating disorder. That’s what her attitude sounds like.
I know when I stayed in Moscow the beauty culture was so cutthroat that they would sell these little bottles of liquid that would make you puke and the girls we hung out with would take them after every meal.

      Sad stuff really

        • Yeahhhh I’m going to use my better judgement and not tell you the name of it.

Also probably not legal where you live anyway, though they sell it online

  • 5 foot 7 and in the 140-150 range doesn’t sound like a problem.

Since you just recently started eating well you might be putting on the healthy weight and just have yet to drop the non healthy weight. Could also be water weight from drinking the extra water.

A lot of people put on a little weight when they start a healthy diet because you go from mindless snacking/meal skipping to balanced and planned meals and sometimes that means you eat more than you did before.

    But it’s good and healthy!
You shouldn’t look at the numbers as much as you should look for how you feel (strength/energy/etc)

And yes your body responds immediately to lifestyle changes, that's normal

The number on the scale is not everything. If you have been exercising more then gaining weight could just mean you are gaining muscle mass which is a good thing. Instead of focusing on your weight or appearance you should focus on what you can do. If you can run the same distance faster than last time, or lift a heavier weight than last time then your body is obviously changing for the better

4 pounds a month is nothing are you kidding me. It sounds to me like your making much ado about nothing.

It does sound like you are a little over weight but only by a few pounds so nothing to get to alarmed about. It is healthy to try and lose those few extra pounds through exercise and healthy eating but your body could take a week or 2 to adjust to your new regime, that has happened to me before when I have dieted but 2 or 3 weeks in I will start to see the results I’m looking for. Remember also that time of the month can cause fluctuations in your weight
