Is it normal that i wash my butt with soap and water every time i poop?

Everytime I poop, I wash my butt with soap and water. I feel like toilet paper is not enough to get the shit off of my ass, so I basically give just my butt a whole shower whenever I take a dump. Sometimes you just wipe and wipe, but the toilet paper still has shit on it in the end. Nothing seems to get rid of the shit as good as soap and water.

I don't know where you live, but in Europe you can buy moist toilet tissue. They're not babywipes - which are non-woven plastic fabric that can cause sewage pipe blockages and problems in treatment plants - but rather a robust form of paper.

Some people believe that paper alone cleans fine, and that may be true if your faeces are always firm and your butt always works in a very neat way. But I think most people would find a little brown smear if they wiped with moist toilet paper after cleaning normally.

Having lived in Italy for several years, I now think bidets are a great invention and every bathroom should have one. Unfortunately Americans, Brits, and northern Europeans in general seem to find the whole concept of ass-washing profoundly embarrassing.

Bathtubs make excellent bidets. Buy a handheld shower and an 84 inch flexible hose for it. After taking a dump, sit on the edge of the tub and swing one leg to the opposite side so your ass is slightly over the tub. Squirt your ass with the shower, then soap up your arse crack and repeat. You can even include a volume control between the hose and the shower head to adjust the pressure. It's a great to have a clean anus.

  • This thread got me thinking and researching, and I learned a lot! Thank you, OP!

Glad to read of so many conscientious butt wipers! For many years I've used and carried baby wipes in my purse, discarding them in the garbage after use. I've just learned that most baby wipes are not biodegradable. Why the hell didn't I know this?! Guess I'm not as green as I thought. :( I've decided to make washable wipes once my supply of wet wipes are gone.

I would love to have a bidet, but it's not an option where I live as a renter. Bidets use approximately 1/8 gallon of water per use. Compared to the average American toilet, which uses 4-5 gallons of DRINKABLE water with each flush!! That's INSANE. Why is that a big deal? If you care to know why check it out:

    https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/is-there-really-a-freshwater-crisis/

At home, I drink a lot of water so my urine is very light, and I only flush every 2nd or 3rd use. I feel pretty good about that, I guess.

Want to know what's REALLY bad for us though? Toilet paper! I am aghast at the data!
~ 27,000 trees are cut down EVERY DAY just so that we can wipe our butts.
~ 473 BILLION gallons of water are used annually in the US to make toilet paper.
~ Bleaching uses 235,000 TONS of chlorine, polluting local water.

I could go on, but I won't. It's already too awful to conceive. Want to read more? Here ya go:

This was enlightening and upsetting. I can do better. I WILL do better. How about you?

Even the wipes labelled for flushing can badly clog plumbing.

She had sanitizer in her purse, her car, and my car. Not little travel bottles, either. We're talking pump bottles or tubes. Even in offices we'd visit that we didn't know, she'd tell me if she used the bathroom, it was a squat, not sit. I put up with it because we were very good, close friends, wrote a lot of business together (good tag-team), and she looked good next to me at functions or events. We looked like a couple, and most people thought we were. They didn't know of her need to almost fully wash up after peeing or pooping.

Why would she tell you she used the bathroom?

  • When I poop, I wipe with toilet paper until the toilet papers white. But, sometimes its messy and I put a squirt of lotion on the toilet paper that I have on the bathroom stand. It gets all the poop off my butt. You should try lotion.

That's a good thing. To me, dry toilet paper is not a sanitary enough thing to use. I've started carrying around moist disinfecting wipes that I use to wipe myself, while home and when out. Also I'll wipe one across the toilet seat in a public restroom before sitting on it. I take sanitation seriously. And I cannot stand skipping even one day of taking a shower and not having freshly washed clothes to put on when I get out of the shower

Seems healthy. If you randomly got shit on any other part of your body you wouldn't just wipe it off dry and call it a day? No. You would use soap and water. Why should the butt hole be any different? You are evolved beyond both the non wipers and the dry wipers.

You're not the only one I've heard that does this. One of my former business associates did, and told me that's why she took forever in the bathroom. And wouldn't, at all, ever, use a porta-potty at public event. I had to drive her back to my house, from a large event, several times for that reason. She hated those things, and couldn't "clean up" afterwards.

In Italy we have the bidet which is a device you use to wash yourself after pooping.
It is a sink but designed to sit on it so it is the same height as the toilet. ( Can't think of a better way to describe it )
I think it is perfectly normal as we wash ourself every time we go to the toilet here.
I've always found it unhygienic to clean myself only using toilet paper because here you get used to use the bidet since you are a little kid.
If I am outside of my house and I really have to go I will always have with me wet wipes specifically made for the intimate zones! I think they sell them in the US too, in Europe they do for sure.

I guess it's normal. Maybe a little overkill but it's okay. Some societies they wash their butts with wet hands then wash their hands. No toilet paper. They been doing it this way for centuries.

I was thinking the same thing about this maybe being an overkill. Is it actually enough to wipe my butt with just toilet paper as long as I do it until I don't see any marks on the toilet paper anymore? If those people survived without even using toilet paper, then I guess simply wiping should be good enough.

I had that issue with wiping and wiping to no end. It was a digestive issue. I figured out what food was causing it, eliminated it, and the issue is gone.

For any who question your wisdom.
Stick their hand into dog stuff.
Then offer them a roll of paper.
