You seem to have it all figured out with the balance of taking the meds and not taking them. This is definitely a good way to avoid medication overuse headaches. I think I should live by your way of doing things when it comes to taking meds because I agree with it 100%.
I also happen to get horrific period cramps. I think those are just as bad as the migraines. But since I hated taking pills, I would just use a heating pad to help with the pain. It would help a lot, but only if I stayed on it for some time. The moment I got up, I felt like I was being stabbed in the uterus again. Obviously, the heating pad remedy is not practical for work.
I can totally have sympathy for you about the long and excruciating headaches. I'm sorry you ran out of pain meds and had such an awful experience. My supply of medication is very limited at the moment, so I'm going to reapply for county insurance so that I can start visiting the doctor and getting my meds again. Keeping them at home (even if rarely taken) is a great idea and an awesome safety net to fall back on.
