Some nostalgiafags will probably get extremely mad at me for saying this, but I've never understood why this stinking piece of shit-of-a-movie is so damn popular. It's fucking terrible, except for the Kenny Loggins song " Danger Zone ", it's pretty rad.
All I know is appearantly that school is real and if you make a top gun reference you get fined. Id say it'd be worth it.
Jet fighters bro... they are cool. It was a decent action flick. Top Gun's parody movies Hot Shots (1 & 2) are even better tho, cause they embrace all the cliches and stereotypes of 80s and 90s action movies and dial them up to 11!

I haven't seen this movie in years and honestly don't remember anything about it, lol. I remember disliking it when I was younger, but not why.
So what made you think of Top Gun? Did you just wake up from your 90s drug induced coma.
As far as the movie and TC, I'm not a big fan of his but unfortunately I do like a lot of his movies if that makes sense. Most of them are fast action type movies and normally have some good supporting actors or stories behind the actors. Come on, what could be better than a lez, I think Kelly was hot, playing the part of a hard nose Navy instructor and TC's crush. They killed off my favorite when they killed goose, but you do need to remember top gun came out just as IMAX was getting around. Nothing better than a action movie with aircraft or fast cars on a larger than life screen.
A lot of the excitement was the demonstration of the technology and the reason for aircraft carriers. Not a lot of movies are made using aircraft carriers, flight operations, and the kinds of things they do.
I served 5 years active duty in the US Navy before this movie was made... In my opinion the plot of the movie was average, acting average, and the carrier and flight scenes amazing.
Top Gun is a machismo-saturated pile of crap.
The US military only makes its personnel, facilities and equipment available to filmmakers if they're certain the film will portray the military in a glamourous way and thus help with recruiting. God alone knows how many young idiots signed up with the USN because they didn't understand Top Gun was a work of fiction.
