Is it normal that i think the 70s were the ugliest time for fashion and style?

All decades through history have given us both good and bad styles. However, the 70s stand out for me as having the worst taste in this regard. Only the worst colors you could possibly think of from the color spectrum were in style then. The furniture design is the absolute worst there has ever been, the clothing styles were all horrendous, the architecture was disgusting. It's a huge contrast from the 1950s that was 20 years earlier, a decade that was aesthetically pleasing.

I actually love it, lol! I love the hairstyles, the colors (that pretty reddish orange, avocado green, harvest gold, dark brown, cream, etc.), the cars, and I really love the architecture.

Actually, I am looking into buying a house right now and am hoping I'll find something that hopefully hasn't been remodeled since then (provided it was also well cared for and everything isn't destroyed). If not, I am planning to redo it in a '70s style. I love spindles, natural woodwork that isn't painted over, ceiling glitter (an absolute must have for me; I miss my ceiling from my childhood!), wood paneling and wainscoting, interesting colored appliances (I am in the odd minority that HATES the look of stainless steel appliances; sink is okay, but that's about it), etc. I really want pretty decorative hardware and light fixtures to replace the boring plain ones that are currently in fashion.

I actually think right now is probably the worst in terms of fashion and design. The fashion is just blah, the cars are absolutely hideous (I especially can't stand what they've done to previously roomy and sporty SUVs/CUVs by making them look like minivans and feel super cramped inside), and I can't stand the architecture/interior design. I have been waiting for beige and gray (but especially gray) and stainless steel (or pewter) everything to die out FOREVER, but it refuses to. I also can't stand that horrible looking cheap laminate fake wood flooring that is so popular. It is so tacky and cheap looking, doesn't look anything like a wooden floor, and usually looks filthy very fast because it's textured (and everything sticks to it because most of it is an almost rubbery texture). To be honest though, I am also in the minority that thinks wood floors are overrated. But I hate how cold, stiff, and uninviting the atmosphere of modern style houses are. Don't even get me started on how all buildings look exactly the same, from office buildings to the new fast food buildings (which are all hideous IMO).

Yeah... why the fuck is everything grey right now?

I had a baby about 18 months ago and when we were looking for stuff to decorate the nursery it was so depressing - every god damn thing was just shades of grey. Babies and toddlers in grey is really not a world I want to live in. All my previous babies were fortunate to be born at a time when people still allowed a bit of colour into their children's lives.

And poured concrete furniture?! Fuck no. So fed up of seeing that depressing shit everywhere. That one will definitely be laughed at by future generations.

      • Grey is also a terrible color, indeed.

I don't necessarily think it's terrible- it has it's place. But I think a lot of it is fucking depressing. Life needs some colour

God, I know. I went into my friends house (she just had a baby girl) and as she was looking for shades of light yellow or blue, there was this one section where it was either all gray or all white. Looked like a fucking mental hospital.

        Congrats on the kid, though!

Yes! I hate the gray trend so much, but it is extremely popular for whatever reason. I haven't seen the poured concrete furniture yet (fortunately), but that sounds awful as well! I have seen some really poorly done concrete countertops and stained concrete floors I didn't like at all.

A hundred years from now, someone will say the same thing about 2020 style.

I think the 70s were cool, but I personally prefer the 80s.

It's normal that you don't like the 70s though, because everybody has their own preferences.

Oooo I dunno the 2000's were pretty bad. Shiny britney spears pleather, denim on denim, justin Timberlake ramen noodle hair...

But yeah, the seventies was a pile of fucking hot garbage. What a disaster

I fucking love the 70s. I wish I had been born in the 50s or 60s so I could've experienced 70s NYC. Lotta fuckin crime, but still dope. I l grew up with the traditional shag carpet, and dark wood paneling. So 70s, but so badass. I love that fucking aesthetic.

Edit: And David Berkowitz. That would've been interesting, being a young woman with 'brown hair'.

    • Yeah, I actually think the 70s was cool in many ways, just not the style. The popular culture then was awesome, especially the movies and the music.

At least they knew how to pull their pants up in the 70's.

    • Yeah that's true, but they pulled it up too far instead.

I would rather see that than some gang banger's boxer shorts. That's how gays advertise in prison.

It was what was trendy back then. Everything was ugly in every year but some weren't.

I disagree. I love 70s as well as 90s fashion. The 2000s was the worst by far. Current fashion is alright aside from all the fakeness.

    • The fashion was bad then, but the general style of furniture and architecture wasn't as bad as the 70s.

I think the 70's was probably the worst for clothing and furniture fashion for sure.
