Is it normal that i talk to myself?

Ever since I was about 5, currently 20, I have talked to myself. Usually at night. I create dream scenarios of a better place with someone. With multiple people. I will pretend I'm both people, creating my ideal scenario/conversation/life with someone. I believe I used this as a coping strategy to not feel so alone as a child? I grew up in a traumatic home my whole life. I still currently live with the people who have troubled me. Only sometimes now, few times a month, do I do this. I am an only child, so never had anyone to talk to as a child either. Maybe this has some play into it? I usually end up crying, because of what I am doing. I realize that I am dumb, and something is mentally wrong with me, before I start crying and then fall asleep. But it helps me to not feel alone, and to feel like I am wanted and loved by these people that I reimagine next to me. What could I maybe be diagnosed with? What is going on with me?

I was homeschooled and lived in the country the only friend I had was my boxer Lucy. I used to believe that my dreams when I slept were reality and every time I woke up it was the same old nightmare. My parents were hard core Christians I had a very unhappy childhood I would run away with my dog for days. Now I'm 33 and I drink allot I sit by the river after work drink beer and talk to myself! I love chilling with myself there's nothing wrong with enjoying your own company !

This is a tough world so screw everyone else and enjoy your dreamworlds!

Everyone agrees with this...makes me feel like we're a bunch of abnormal's reassuring each other that we are actually normal...when we're actually not. But i'm okay with that.

I do this all the time, honestly sometimes I sit and think I’m the only person that does it but then I read lots of others do it too. It’s a way to make yourself happy, it makes up for everything your lacking in day to day life, I think. But yeah, it sounds normal to mex don’t worry :)

    Normal normal normal.
Please don't think you have some kind of mental illness, I'd say most people on the planet have done this at some point. Psychologists think that talking to yourself can be healthy (in moderation), it helps you figure things out/think things through more clearly.

nothing is wrong with you. you said that you had a bad child hood right? this will make you sensitive especially if you were criticized a lot.. because this will program your mind that you are always wrong (depending on how you were verbally abused, if you were)

What you are doing is natural.. since until now you didnt find a substitute for it... kids play imaginary games when they are bored.. if they never found anything more fun to do. they wont stop playing such games... if you didnt find a better outlet you will not stop doing this either...

i did that for a long time.. but i usually play a character in a story that i created in my head... when i went to the theater in my college two years back everyone was so happy with me... turns out that this "talking to myself" made me a very good performer... you say you done it for a lot of time.. try acting or writing dialogues that can turn out to be stories or something.
