Is it normal that i struggle getting and staying out of bed?

I try to be productive but I always end up back in bed. All through the day I get into this cycle of getting up, sleep, get up sleep. I feel the most happy and comfortable in bed. Yesterday I nearly got out of the house but I ended up going back to bed and sleeping

    • This so much. This is depression. 150%. I don't believe in internet diagnoses, but you are diagnosed, OP.

It's not normal to want to crawl into bed & escape the world. That is what bed is...it's check the fuck out of town-ville. It is not normal to seek that out. You should have things in your life that you are excited about & look forward to. If you don't have that & you just want to sleep instead, then you need help.

This will only get worse, not better on it's own.

      • I agree with the part where I'm not excited or looking forward to nothing. I have nothing to keep me driving at the moment.

        • You just...you need to know that this is not normal or ok. That's the insidious thing about mental disorders like depression. They feed on themselves. Depression makes you feel like you're just being dramatic; like you're a failure & you don't deserve help. That's not true.

It's not normal to never feel happiness or excitement about life. It's not normal to need to escape & feel most comfortable when you're alone & cut off from the world. Depression is just as physical as having a broken leg. It's a function of your brain simply not producing the chemicals that are associated with life's mental rewards. It is legitimately a physical problem, not just a mental one. If your leg was broken, would you just let it go & hope it heals on it's own?

          Probably not.

Listen, it sucks having to ask for help. It's just the worst & your depression...it actively discourages you from doing so, but you need to. You deserve it. You are entitled to feeling happy. Sleeping should absolutely not be the best part of your day. What kind of life is that?

I know it's a huge challange to admit ypu need help...& an even bigger challange to go & get help, but you should. You deserve to be happy, even if you don't feel like it.

  • It may be a medical condition that causes excessive exhaustion.

I've had excessive exhaustion problems for about 2 months... Traced it to a medication I was taking. Remove that medication and I had all kinds of energy again...

There are unfortunately a lot of things other than depression that can cause excessive exhaustion.

I wish you well in figuring it out...

  • You just sound really lazy and like you have no motivation or drive to be successful.
