Is it normal that i still want to wait to drive?

I’ve talked about this a lot on here, but I’m currently 21 and STILL have not driven. However, I’ve come to realize how irrational I’ve been about it. I started having negative attitudes about cars in general, and kept worrying about other people instead of focusing on myself z

With that being said, I still think I should wait to drive. It’s not just that I’m scared for myself, but for other people as well. I feel like at my current state of mind I’m a bit TOO scared, and that could potentially be as dangerous as not being careful enough.

I hear people’s brains aren’t developed all the way until around age 25 or 26, so perhaps I should wait until then. I still have things I need to work on and memories I need to stop obsessing over (especially of a friend of mine, I don’t know why I can’t stop thinking about them). I don’t think I’m emotionally stable enough just yet, and as of the present moment I don’t NEED to drive, but I think I might try it just to see if it’s right for me.

    Damn, I didn't get my driver's license until I was 17, and I thought I was a late bloomer.

    • I’ve had extreme anxiety. I let emotions get in the way of logic.

Are you obsessed with car accidents, or something?

        • Yes. There was talk of them literally every day at my school and all the horrible things that could result keep playing back in my mind. They made it seem like the most dangerous thing in the world

I don't know what to tell you, except to say that for me the risks of driving an automobile are worth it for the independence it provides.

If you're going to be nervous behind the wheel of a 2 ton vehicle maybe it's best if you do wait until you get your wits about you.

Yeah dude you should probably learn to drive. It isnt even that hard, past the written exam in 15 minutes, and did the practical afterwards and succeeded. I was 17 and a hell of a lot stupider then I am now at 22.

I'm 22. I'm now reading the driving book for my state. Its important I'm afraid. I'm very not excited to start driving to. My best friend didnt get hers till she was 23. It's easy to put off especially when cars make you uncomfy. But you should at least get your license and drive on occasion to keep the skill fresh.

I just got myself a boat, didn't think much about it, assumed if you had a car drivers licence you would be sweet. Found out I now need a marine fvcking licence. I had no issue getting my L's, P's and drivers licence but the marine license is STUPID. You have to remember stupid morse code, signals and lights on boats mean 1000 different things, buoyage system was surprisingly very simple. Did 4 practice tests online and passed every one.

When it come to my car licence I was a late bloomer. I just didn't care for a licence and would drive anyway, most times I was just going down bush. Didn't get my L's until I was 20, didn't get my P's until I was 21. All my mates got theirs as soon as they could and depending on what state you lived in it could be 15 or 16. I'm in Australia by the way!

It’s pathetic and ridiculous that you have such an extreme fear of driving. You need a therapist to sort this out.
