Smokers continue to do it because they're addicted, not because they want to die. I'm speaking as someone with COPD/emphysema who smoked for decades and wasn't diagnosed until after I'd quit.
Sorry to hear that. It's very sad what the tobacco industry did to so many people, just sad. But for you personally, that's awful - I know you don't/didn't want to die. I used to smoke too, and it's so hard to give up ..nearly impossible for a lot of people. Until it gives *them* up...
I'm lucky that it was diagnosed early and now some years after diagnosis I've maintained the lung function level I had then, with the right breathing & other exercises and puffers. I just have to stay away from air pollution as much as possible, including other people's cigarette smoke.
That's good that hasn't kept getting worse then. And at least there's not as much cigarette smoke around now as there used to be.
Honestly, I still like the smell when I walk past it... But obviously I see how irritating it could be.
IIN that i started smoking because i just want to die quicker?

Maybe that's why a lot of people continue to do it, they subconsciously want to die. So I'm gonna say normal.
