  • It's not too late for them to back out.

    • It didn’t end well for the group that went in the movie.

      • Hollywood's version has little to do with the reality of what is at Chernobyl and how it is managed.

He'd be quite safe for a normal tour, and any such tour will not be allowed to enter any area that still has high levels of radiation.

The nice thing about radiation is that it is from the radioactive decay of materials to a safer state and most of the materials have short or modest half lives. Its been 35 years - and the majority of the original radioactive materials have decayed to much lower - if not insignificant levels.

Other than the reactor fuel itself the biggest issue at this point is Cobalt 60, which does not exist in much quantity in the type of reactor involved as very little cobalt was used in the materials used to construct the reactor or the boiling water circuit.

That's actually more of a concern in a Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) where cobalt is needed in the metal alloys for the reactor and primary loop to contain the high pressures at the temperatures of a PWR.

      • That's just natural selection. Weeds out the idiots.
